Northwestern blows past Purdue behind Kromenhoek, Farrell in 38-16 road win

The Wildcats set a season high for points and margin of victory as Luke Kromenhoek threw four touchdowns and Chase Farrell scored three times.

The Northwestern Wildcats rolled to a 38-16 win over the Purdue Boilermakers on Thursday at Ross–Ade Stadium, using a season-high scoring output to post its largest margin of victory this season.

Quarterback Luke Kromenhoek led the offense with 360 passing yards and four touchdowns despite one interception, while receiver Chase Farrell caught passes for 81 yards and three scores in a sharp bounce-back performance after a quiet outing against USC.

Northwestern also controlled the line of scrimmage on defense, finishing with seven sacks. Cam Buffington was the biggest disruptor, accounting for two sacks as the Wildcats repeatedly got into Purdue's backfield and kept the Boilermakers from building much momentum.

Purdue's brightest offensive effort came from Jaylan Hornsby, who finished with 101 receiving yards and a touchdown, but the Boilermakers could not keep pace with Northwestern's big plays. The loss extended Purdue's skid to five games and dropped it to 2-6.

Northwestern improved to 5-2 after winning three of its last four games and will face Maryland next on October 28. Purdue, meanwhile, will meet Michigan State on October 28.
