Tues. — Alexander Radulov scored 42 seconds into the third period to break a 2-2 tie and the Rangers went on to take the game against Anaheim by a 4-2 final. K’Andre Miller scored an empty-net goal in the final minute to seal the win.

With the win, the Rangers (20-14-2) earned their 42nd point and now trail Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia (all with 43 points) by one point. Anaheim became the latest West-leading team to fall during New York’s resurgence — winning 7 of their last 10 games.

Radulov scored twice in the game, striking early in the 2nd period during a power play for his 12th of the season. The goal was the first of four-unanswered by New York that brought them back from an 0-2 deficit. Joe Pavelski and Jacob Silfverberg netted for the Ducks in the first period.

Igor Shesterkin made 18 saves to earn the win, while Joe Gibson stopped 35 and took the loss.

Fri. — Ryan Strome and Andrew Copp scored two goals each to fuel a Rangers 6-0 blowout of the Vegas Knights at T-Mobile Arena, and extended their winning streak to 4 games. Strome scored the opening goal of the first and second periods and raised his season total to 14.

The Golden Knights started Robin Lehner in the net, but Lehner was inadequate, allowing 5 goals, and was replaced after 47 minutes with backup goalie Laurent Brossoit. Though Brossoit was on the ice for only 12 minutes, even he couldn’t contain a red-hot Rangers offense that put in another goal for good measure.

Alexander Radulov continued to rack up the points. He scored a goal and assisted on two to finish with 2 points, and Filip Chytil also scored. Defenseman Jacob Trouba finished with 3 assists.

The Rangers were dominant in shot attempts (33-13) and converted two power play chances. The win was the second over the Golden Knights. New York defeated Vegas 4-3 a week prior.

Mon. — Top-defenseman Adam Fox suffered a broken jaw in the Rangers win over the Oilers and could miss two weeks (possible return of January 23).

Fri. — The Hurricanes prevented the Rangers from winning their 10th straight game by defeating New York 6-4 at Madison Square Garden. Sebastian Aho scored twice for Carolina who beat Igor Shesterkin for three goals in the second period to take a 5-4 lead.

Week of January 15

Mon. — Filip Chytil scored with less than 5 minutes remaining to break a 2-2 tie and Keifer Sherwood added an empty-net goal to seal the Rangers 4-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins at Madison Square Garden. The Penguins had taken a 2-1 lead in the third period, then Ryan Strome’s 15th of the season tied the game at 12:03. New York is 8-2-0 in last ten games.

Tue. — Ryan Strome scored with 1.7 seconds left to play to break a 1-1 tie and the Rangers defeated the New Jersey Devils 2-1 at Madison Square Garden. Alexander Radulov sent a cross ice pass from the left circle for Strome to slap inside the right post before goalie Makenzie Blackwood could slide over. New York moved into 6th-place with 52 points. Backup goalie Braden Holtby earned the win.

Week of January 22

The 9th-place Rangers (26-16-2, 54 points) rose as high as 7th-place last week, but a loss to Chicago stalled New York’s progress. On the flip side, wins against the Devils and Bruins made things in the East a lot tighter — only 5 points separate the 4th-place team for the 9th-place team.

Sun. — Igor Shesterkin earned his 10th career shutout after the Rangers cruised to a 7-0 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Alexander Radulov had already notched a hat trick by the 2nd period. In Tampa Bay’s defense, their starting goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy (29 wins) was given the night off and 21-year old Hugo Alnefelt (8-7-1, 2.57 GAA) was fed to the wolves. New York (30-17-2, 62 points) will begin next month in 6th-place, 3 points behind 3rd-place Boston.
